Tree preservation orders and conservation areas

Some trees are protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) which is an order made by a local planning authority to prevent the felling, uprooting or any willful damage to the protected tree. If any work is carried out without permission, you could face up to £20,000 in fines.  In order to carry out work on a tree that has a TPO, you must apply to the local planning authority for permission and this can take up to 8 weeks.

Similarly trees situated in a conservation area are also subject to planning laws. You must apply for permission to carry out any work, which can take up to 6 weeks.

As a professional company, we are obligated to check whether your tree has a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or is situated in a conservation area.  If this is the case, we shall inform you and can take care of the planning application and any associated paperwork on your behalf should you wish.

To find out whether your tree has a TPO or is situated in a conservation area, contact your local tree officer.
